Leornardo Da Vinci invented the CVT.
Since he also invented the helicopter, maybe those two were meant for
each other. They even call it NuVinci.

of carbon fiber continues. This is not a good time to be building an
HPH. But, the price of computers is going down and the quality of free
engineering software keeps improving. So, maybe this is a good
time to be doing all your computer simulations and stress analysis
until the price of carbon comes down.

a new Kremer prize aimed
at schools and other youth organizations.

project declares their aim to bring human powered fixed-wing aircraft
to the masses. This is the first attempt, that I've ever heard of, to

- 2006-07-11: Human powered submarine competition starting July
20th in Escondido, California.
- 2006-07-09: The Toronto Star
newspaper published an article
on Jul 9th 2006 by Scott Simmie on the subject of cash prizes for
innovation. Basically, he says that if you want to spur a
breakthrough in any field, just offer a "significant cash
prize" to who ever comes up with the solution. There is no
mention of the Sikorsky Prize.
- 2006-07-08: An Ornithopter
(flapping wings) takes off with jet-assist. This project
was headed by designer James DeLaurier, a professor of aeronautical
engineering at Toronto University. The Toronto Star has an interesting
